In the era, where every aspect of our life is marked by the involvement of social media, how can a job search be any different? The internet has become a great source of job searching. However, the platform that has beaten conventional job search portals is LinkedIn. The elements you choose to include in your LinkedIn profile can be the difference between landing your dream job and yearn over a missed opportunity. Busy recruiters don’t have time to sift through poorly organized profiles, therefore it’s essential to wow them right away. So, here are 5 ways to attract recruiters to your LinkedIn profile.
- Use keywords strategically: Put some thought into the words you use to describe yourself. These are the same words that potential employers will be using to search for eligible candidates, both on LinkedIn and throughout the internet.
Just like other websites, search engine optimization is critical for getting more eyes on your profile.
Put yourself in the recruiter’s shoes and run a few test searches of your own to see what types of words and phrases come up most frequently. For example, you can have the keyword “digital marketing strategy” in your LinkedIn profile; however, recruiters would be more likely to search for the term “digital marketing strategist.” Synonyms are also very important, you never know if recruiters will search for “marketing,” “internet” or “digital,” so, you can include them all.
Organically incorporate these key terms into your profile headline and description to attract both the search engine and human reader alike - Picture Perfect: We all know you can’t judge a book by its cover. But the fact is that if a cover isn’t inviting, people aren’t going to open that book up to read what’s inside. On social media, a profile picture represents our sole opportunity to make a strong visual first impression. If there is no profile picture, the people viewing your profile will not feel connected, and will definitely lose interest.
Choose a picture that captures your personality and gives the people viewing your profile a good look at you. According to research, recruiters are more likely to contact users who have an up-to-date profile picture.
For best results, post a picture of yourself on the job. For example, you might pose in front of a whiteboard if you are a marketer, or get a candid shot in front of the blackboard if you’re a teacher.
Don’t put disorienting group photos where it’s difficult to tell who’s who. - Optimize the headline section: Think about how best to package your qualifications for a potential employer. Your headline is one of the first things a recruiter will see when exploring your profile, so it should be something that you’re proud to have displayed beneath your name.
Marketing yourself for the job you aspire to rather than the one you have now may attract the recruiters.
Avoid being intentionally misleading with your tagline. Not only is it dishonest, but it’s sure to ruin your chances of being hired once the employer finds out that you’re not what you claim
4. Write an impressive summary: The summary section plays a major role in optimizing your LinkedIn profile to attract recruiters. Utilizing this section appropriately can do wonders for you in your job hunt process. Along with a description of your current responsibilities and day-to-day tasks, state what you hope to be doing in the near future. An ambitious pitch suggests that you’re always looking forward to the next step. This sort of forward-thinking is an asset no matter who’s doing the hiring.
You can also create subsections in the summary section, namely: Career
Highlights, Key Certifications, Areas of Expertise, Technical Skills, etc.
Don’t leave your summary section blank. This is your chance to tell prospective employers in your own words what makes you special
5. Stay Active: Chances of your LinkedIn profile are more likely to rise exponentially if you stay active more frequently. By constantly adding new details, remixing your layout, and interacting with other users, you’ll be able to make yourself more visible.
You can share articles from industry trade journals, websites and online
magazines as well as LinkedIn Pulse, where you will discover authors on a wide range of topics. You can also join some groups and start reading, commenting and sharing.
Focus on continually building your network. With the right network in place, you can reach out as soon as you see a job posting and can apply for the same.
LinkedIn keeps on adding new features and functions to their site. Take advantage of these options and use them to put together an outstanding profile that will get you the recognition you deserve.
