BE GOAL ORIENTED: If u want to get promoted at your workplace, you must be a person with a specific goal in your mind, for example – where you see yourself in next 6 months or within a specific time period. A good boss will always help you to achieve these goals by providing you the opportunities to grow and promote yourself. Setting and achieving goals is one of the easiest ways to demonstrate your abilities.
Setting goals will show your manager that you’re focused on a plan and achieving them will prove that you’re capable. Working with goals gives you tangible results that you can use to help prove that you’re ready for a promotion. Document your results so that you have concrete proof that highlights your results.
BE A TEAM PLAYER : Employers don’t like when employees are focused on “I” rather than “we.” They want team players who are committed to helping the greater good of the team, which ultimately benefits the company, being a team player also helps to build healthy relationships with your co-workers. This type of employee simply goes above and beyond and will be the first thought of when promotions are being decided.
NETWORK WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE : Building a strong network with the right people increases your chance of being promoted.Networking with others within your organization and otherwise will allow you to get to know the people who can provide support now and in the future. It’s also a chance to promote yourself and your skills as well. You can get similar benefits by getting involved with groups in your organization and easily get promoted.
ANNOUNCE YOUR PLANS : Don’t assume your manager knows you want a promotion, because not all employees want to take on more responsibilities. It’s your responsibility to sit down with your manager and discuss your career goals. Let them know exactly what your aspirations are, and they’ll be able to help you.
Since your manager will be instrumental in getting you promoted, you want them to be fully on board with your plans. If he will be interested in your future plan, he will support you in every way and further will increase your chances of being promoted.
BECONSISTENT : It’s not enough to do excellent work some of the time – you must perform at the same level of excellence consistently. Employees that get promoted are all top performers whose work can always be counted on by their colleagues and managers.
In exhibiting these plans, be fully engaged in your work. Show up everyday and give 100%, and your manager will be sure to notice. Remember that promotions take time, so don’t get frustrated if it takes longer than you expect. Keep putting in the work and know that it will eventually pay off.
