It’s hard to take control of your life in this aggressively consuming urban lifestyle, where people start making decisions even before hearing the complete story from your side. They start telling you to go with the flow, making assumption and preaching knowledge that they themselves don’t practice.
Career is a very long journey and we the students are barely just standing at its doorstep and to commence this journey we don’t need to take a leap of faith being a maverick which is quite in vogue these days, instead we can take some calculated risks better described as baby steps while adhering to morals and principles of why we are doing it in the first place. A career starts with the person, and for an excellent career we need an excellent person and for that we need to reboot our minds at least to some degree.
Philosophers have made it quite fussy of the idea of what life is, that it is a gargantuan task but life rather is quite simple it’s us and people around us that make it complicated. The mantra to take control of our life is to keep things simple. Now this is all very elementary but does not solve the problem at the micro level. The very first thing you have to do is make a schedule. Now, I know it’s redundant to say that scheduling is necessary to lead a healthier lifestyle and only few will take it seriously but once you have determined you will start taking control over your life and will be living on your own terms, and for that you will need to brainstorm and find areas where you lack control, and then to jot down some tasks or activities which will help you to gain that control back. These tasks, it can be anything like going to the gym or learning a new skill etcetera and after doing so you need to stick to them. A study from Neuron states that habits are formed in the brain by the endocannabinoid, and the main way to keep them as habits is to be consistent. It will be very it is tempting to put everything down and decide to start tomorrow. Instead, try working on some of the tasks that you had planned remind yourself of these tasks or activities in order to make permanent change. A study from Neuron states that habits are formed in the brain by the endocannabinoid, and the main way to keep them as habits is to be consistent. So, once you establish the rules you need to abide by them and be strict with your routine and live by the standards you have set. The concept of self discipline is very important to keep control of your life and you have to practice saying no in your everyday life. For example saying no to friends for hanging out if it it impedes on your sleep schedule, or cancel a social gathering if it means you’re skipping out on your yoga class. It’s important to keep in mind that there will be circumstances that require you to adapt your routine – but there’s a difference between compromising and always having to cave in. there’s a very simple tool for the above problem it’s called two day rule, the rule is that you will never ever skip a daily task or activity of your routine for more than two days. This tool is very helpful as it gives us flexibility while making sure that we don’t lose our determination for the goal.
Once you achieve self discipline and adapt to follow a schedule and living an organized life you can focus on building a strong foundation for a career. Punctuality is a very essential requirement in any professional environment and having achieved a clear control over your life it won’t be difficult for you to be punctual. The core of any career is the experience and to gain that you will need to hustle and grind. You will need to identify the direction you want to go in, and then you will need to make a strategy, Dr. Tracey Wilen-Daugenti, vice president and managing director of Apollo Research Institute and visiting scholar in Stanford University’s Media X program, recommends four career management strategies.
1. Set goals and create a plan to achieve them. Could your career development and management use help to gain momentum? People who are the most successful and satisfied in their careers have proactively determined what they want from work.
2. Develop a timeline, including milestones. Bringing your boss and their sponsorship and mentoring into the picture will ensure that you have an internal mentor who will help you manage your career.
3. Utilize company programs. Some companies have formal programs to help employees develop their careers. In others, you will need to informally pursue your career development. Companies with programs generally focus energy on helping employees develop and follow a career path.
4. Own your career path. A career path can be discussed at several bi-annual meetings with your boss. Some companies demonstrate a deep commitment to their employees by assisting where possible with resources of time and dollars. However, remember that it is your career path.
Conclusion
Building a successful career takes time, effort, and patience. If you’re willing to sacrifice and you’re willing to get out of your comfort zone, you will succeed. To take control of your life is not that hard, honestly. It just takes courage and commitment to follow everything that you’ve targeted.
