Being a great leader at work is important. Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill encompassing the ability of an individual or organization to “lead” or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. A leader is a person who leads, enjoys the command and build its own fan base. He convinces other people to follow him. A great leader builds confidence in other people and pushes them towards the goal.
An Incredible leader is one who continues to learn from every opportunity he comes across, irrespective of his age or circumstances. A person who chases his passion instead of money.
How to be an Effective Leader?
There is a misconception in the minds of people that a leader and a manager are the same and they often use these words interchangeably. But the two terms are entirely different.
There is a huge difference in both the terms: leaders go different from others; managers copy things, leaders bear all risk; managers control it, leaders create a vision; managers create goals. To be a successful businessman one should behaving both qualities. Let us discuss what can lead you to be a great leader at work.
Build trust among the employees
When a leader comes to leading a team, you have to be willing to go out on a limb for your employees to show you have their backbone. Always show a genuine interest in your team’s well-being shows you care and are willing to protect them when necessary.
While a leader builds trust, it demonstrates that leaders’ own interests and actions will never supersede the goals of the organization or your employees.
How can a leader build trust?
- Participating in day-to-day activities.
- Learn about each of your employees.
- Involve them in decision making to show you value their input.
- Always recognize an employee’s contribution.
Make an open environment for two-way feedback and communication
- Encourage your employees to ask questions frequently, suggest ways to solve problems or discuss concerns. Allow them to express their own opinions on company decisions or policies.
- Don’t dismiss or talk over or an employee’s viewpoint.
- Knowledge is power. That’s why a leader should ensure that every employee is provided up-to-date information about the organization’s long term and short term goals, performance, successes, and failures.
Be an adviser for your team
- A leader should foster trust and cooperation to. Leaders can make a vision of the future that inspires the team to do whatever it takes to get their goal.
- And as an adviser, you have to persuade action that will help execute that goal. Build an honest and open environment without taking information personally.
- Say “thank you,” be encouraging, and try to put yourself in their position to better understand their everyday challenges.
- Reinforce positive behavior and increase confidence when employees are accomplishing their objectives and goals.
Show confidence in your decisions
- When you undertake the responsibility of leadership, you have to be comfortable in making big decisions and sticking to them.
- You can’t be afraid to be decisive and make tough calls when circumstances require it.
- It is critical you understand the many facets of an issue and obtain as much information to make an informed decision.
Take responsibility
- We are all human. Mistakes will happen. But it’s not always easy to own up to mistakes and be open-minded to feedback and change.
- You have to support and assist your team. Give them the confidence to take the risk and speak up without being punished.
- When the mistake is yours, take ownership. Don’t try to blame someone else, situation or circumstance.
Give freedom to your team
- As your business grows, you will realize that you cannot be around for every decision, and you would not be fully qualified to perform every position.
- That is why it’s crucial to leverage the strengths of your team. This means finding each employee’s strengths, trusting their expertise and making the best of their abilities.
Having a positive attitude
- A great leader at work always shows a positive attitude and never tries to discourage his employees.
- A positive attitude in an organization leads to increase in productivity and a rise in the morale of employees to take their work to its final bell.
Few are planning, few are waiting for the time but leaders have already started.
